D Magrino joins James J. Cupero
John W. Magrino has been named associate attorney at the Goshen-based law firm of James J. Cupero, PLLC. Magrino is renowned for having successfully represented victims and family members, of the heinous terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. His pro bono efforts helped recover millions of dollars for distressed families. Magrino focuses on medical malpractice and personal injury litigation, and has a very successful track record in coordinating sophisticated litigation cases, both in New Jersey as well as New York. He is authorized to practice in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and New York.
President's Call to Service Award to Paralegal
Pam Lewis, a Paralegal working in Vinson & Elkins LLP received the President's Call to Service Award for volunteer work for more than 4,000 hours in 'public safety and emergency response' as law enforcement officer. Employed at the law firm's insolvency and reorganization practice in the Dallas office, Lewis has been also serving as a reserve officer for the Dallas Police Department since 1979. The prescribed time to be devoted by a reserve officer is 16 hours, whereas Lewis worked for 30 hours a month. Her duties as an officer include, routine patrols, taking emergency calls, and helping in special events in the city. The award is given under the USA Freedom Corps program, created by President Bush in 2001.
LA Former Time Warner GC joins Baker Botts
Baker Botts LLP has hired Dennis P. Duffy as a partner in the firm's labor and employment section in Houston. Duffy is the former Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Labor and Employment for Time Warner Inc., and has significant experience in both private and public sectors. The labor and employment litigation team at Baker Botts has tackled numerous disputes in state and federal courts, including in the areas of employment discrimination and wrongful discharge claims; ERISA claims; wage claims and collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act; and disputes over non-competes and trade secrets.
Piper on "Defense Hot List"
The second annual "Defense Hot List" of the National Law Journal has identified DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP's Litigation practice as outstanding in defense work. The Hot List has mentioned three of the firm's most noted cases-Mantz v. St. Paul Fire & Marine Ins. Co; Gateway v. Hewlett-Packard Co.; and MediaTek Inc. v. Zoran Corp. The last two are noteworthy intellectual property litigation cases. DLA Piper's Litigation Practice wing has more than 600 attorneys based in 59 offices globally, and 23 in the U.S. NLJ's criteria for selecting law firms for the Hot List is based on past track records of the firms, and need at least one win with significant precedent or with significant financial stakes after July 1, 2005. The selected law firms also need to dedicate a minimum of 50 percent of their litigation recourses towards defense work.
McDermott's Silicon Valley office to be honored for pro bono work
The Silicon Valley office of McDermott Will & Emery will be honored with the 2006 President's Pro Bono Service Award for the Medium Law Firm category. The announcement comes from The State Bar of California, and the award will be handed over in October at the annual State Bar meeting. The exemplary pro bono and community service by the Silicon Valley office includes providing 1,500 pro bono hours for clients referred by the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County. Lawyers and staff worked on issues such as complex and emergency matters for needy children and their parents, apart from other pro bono service. McDermott Will & Emery traditionally offers pro bono service to help communities which cannot afford legal costs.
New Aviation Attorney flies into Holland & Knight
Holland & Knight LLP has hired prominent attorney Anita Mosner as partner in the firm's Washington DC office. Having experience as an Aviation attorney, Ms. Mosner will play a key role in Holland & Knight's aviation practice, which includes handling aircraft finance, corporate transactions, commercial litigation, legislative and government affairs, regulatory matters, NTSB investigations, and accident litigation. Previously Ms. Mosner has worked with U.S. and several foreign governments on aviation trade policy and facilitation matters. She has also assisted clients in matters relating to aviation competition and has provided aero-political, and government relations strategy.
