Skadden Arps successfully deploys Yipes' VPLS Ethernet-based service

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP, has chosen to deploy Yipes' managed Ethernet service in its offices across the globe. A meshed network, Yipes' Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) has helped the law firm do away with its wide area network (WAN). The firm uses Citrix and voice applications via the Yipes network and will soon be able to run video applications. The Ethernet-based solution blends effortlessly with Skadden's Layer 3 MPLS service. The technology also offers converged voice, video, and data applications. By centralizing the Ethernet solution at its four data centers in Ohio, New York, London, and Tokyo, the firm has significantly improved its network and application performance.

Williamson adds paralegal and technical writer

Williamson Intellectual Property Law, LLC, has added Andrea (Drea) Parlier as an executive secretary and paralegal and S. Daniel Daugherty, II, as a technical writer. Parlier, an experienced intellectual property paralegal, has worked on marketing and trademark filings and has assisted with litigation discovery. She holds a paralegal certificate from Kennesaw State University. Daugherty is taking the United States Patent and Trademark Office exam to become a patent agent. He is a lawyer and has earned a Master of Intellectual Property degree. Daugherty has also worked as a summer associate in Germany and studied intellectual property in China and Ireland. Williamson's lawyers assist clients with patent and trademark searches; the preparation and filing of various patent, trademark, and copyright applications; and licensing, among other matters.

Prominent IP and transactions specialist joins Thompson & Knight

Thompson & Knight, LLP, has announced the appointment of intellectual property specialist John J. Driscoll as a partner in its New York office. Driscoll, an expert on advising businesses with intellectual property assets, brings to the firm more than 30 years of experience with intellectual property and international business transactions. He focuses his practice on trademark law, copyright law, licensing, international operations, new ventures, sourcing, retail operations, and trade issues. On the transactions front, Driscoll is a seasoned lawyer in areas including corporate and securities transactions, hedge funds, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Thompson & Knight, LLP, has 420 attorneys specializing in energy. Its lawyers are experts in the areas of litigation, insolvency, taxation, and international energy issues.

Stradley Ronon hires former SEC assistant chief counsel

Former assistant chief counsel in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Investment Management Alison M. Fuller has joined Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young, LLP, as a partner in its investment management/mutual funds practice. Fuller, who gained significant knowledge and experience while working for the SEC, will advise the law firm's clients, including investment companies, broker-dealers, and investment advisers. Working from the firm's Washington, DC, office, she will primarily provide counsel on regulatory and compliance matters relating to securities law. Before joining the SEC, Fuller worked as a corporate securities associate at Seward & Kissel's office in Washington, DC.

Butzel Long acquires NYC commercial law firm

In a strategic move, Michigan-based Butzel Long has acquired New York commercial law firm Hollyer, Brady, Barrett & Hines, LLP. The acquisition will provide Butzel Long with an office in New York City. The new office will employ 10 top attorneys who have expertise in the areas of real estate, commercial litigation, mutual funds, and arbitration. Hollyer, Brady, Barrett & Hines' attorneys serve top mutual funds, global banks, and a number of prominent New York cultural figures. Formed in 1854, Butzel Long has 225 attorneys working from offices across the Midwest and alliance offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

Hogan & Willig adds John LaFalce as special counsel

Hogan & Willig, PLLC, has announced that retired congressman John LaFalce will join the firm as special counsel. Based at the firm's Amherst office, LaFalce will primarily work on small business and banking matters. He earlier worked for law firm Harris Beach, PLLC. LaFalce is a well-known fellow of Niagara University, where he provides counsel to the president, officers, and trustees and also lectures upon request. Hogan & Willig has 21 attorneys and a support staff of approximately 60 employees. The firm, which has nine specialty areas, also has an office in Lockport, NY.
