Latham & Watkins Adds to Benefits
Law firm Latham & Watkins recently expanded its parental leave policy. The plan affects both biological and adoptive parents. Caregivers such as birth mothers and adoptive parents (ones who are primary caregivers) will now get 18 weeks instead of 12 weeks to care for their infants. Other primary caregivers, such as biological fathers, will receive 10 weeks. Additionally, according to Law.com, the firm is "launching an option for associates to return on a reduced schedule for six months after their child's arrival without prior approval — and without full-time billable-hour requirements." Although the law firm is not the first to implement such incentives, its actions demonstrate a new phase in flexibility which is being acknowledged by law professionals.
