Allen & Overy's Japan office at crossroads
The underperforming Tokyo arm of the magic circle firm Allen & Overy, is under scrutiny. The management will meet to discuss the Japan office and decide on its fate; whether to pull down the shutter, or revive it by investing heavily-which could be done by appointing Bengoshi.
Set-up in 1988, the Tokyo office of the law firm has six partners, and is making considerable operating profit. But when the drawings of the partners is subtracted, the office is a loss-making arm. Disintegration of Wacks Caller, UK - a boon for Pannone
Ending a two year speculation on its fate, Northwest based Wacks Caller has finally disintegrated with corporate partner Martin Caller calling the shots. Martin, also a founder partner of the law firm, will lead a team of around 40 staff to join regional competitor Pannone. Among other top lawyers leaving the firm include litigation head Kit Sorrell, corporate litigation partner Michael Kennedy, and commercial property partner John Gower Jones.
The move may help push Pannone among the top 50 UK law firms, and also boost its corporate practice. The four remaining partners of Wacks Caller intend to re-launch the firm under the name of Atticus.
